SUSAAN sister projects

MIRIA

MIRIA Project aims to develop wide-range-antimicrobial nanocoatings to be used in hospitals and other environments where cross-contamination and contagion risk are significant issues.

NANOBLOC

NANOBLOC Project aim is to provide reliable Antimicrobial, Antiviral, and Antifungal Nanocoatings, by sustainable synthesis methods, suitable for application on all surfaces and textiles. Driving new standards in validating the performance of antimicrobial & antiviral nanocoatings.

NOVA

NOVA Project is committed to developing a comprehensive approach to antimicrobial coatings. During the project, each step of this comprehensive approach is simplified and optimised through know-how, high-quality coatings and new testing methods. NOVA will define use cases, e.g. a variety of surfaces (glass, metal, alloys, ceramics, textiles, plastics) and everyday conditions under which the selected coatings will be tested.

RELIANCE – HE

RELIANCE Project is addressing the growing need for an innovative holistic solution of smart response antimicrobial nanocoatings that are highly effective and safe, removing bacteria, fungi and viruses in a more efficient cost/performance ratio than the presently used petrochemical-based ones.

STOP

The STOP (Surface Transfer Of Pathogens) project seeks to develop a new generation of antimicrobial agents that can be deployed on surfaces to reduce the likelihood of bacteria or viruses being transmitted between people. This is particularly important for surfaces that are touched by many people (such as holds or buttons in public transport vehicles) or surfaces used by vulnerable populations (such as counter-tops in nursing homes).

Triple-A-COAT

Triple-A-COAT Project is developing antimicrobial, antifungal, and antiviral coatings based on nanocellulose that has been modified to enhance its activity against pathogens. The test case for the project is the public transport environment. Considering surfaces found in a bus, developing coatings that can be applied on metal, plastic, glass and seat fabric.

Workshops and conferences joining sister EU projects

1ˢᵗ Workshop Exploring potential synergies among sister EU funded projects

18th May 2023 - Online

On May 18th, SUSAAN organised a virtual workshop with the participation of all the EU-Sister funded project consortia, particularly to discuss potential synergies on dissemination and communication activities, Challenges and risks applied to sustainability, and other technical requierements. In this opportunity we also invited the IRISS project which is an EU-funded network developing roadmaps and expert networks to support “safe and sustainable by design¨ approach being used in future across all product development.

SUSAAN participation

SUSAAN Coordinator presented the project overview and ARDITEC presented the goals in sustainability the work package.

2ⁿᵈ Advancing Antimicrobial Nanocoating Technologies Community Day

17ᵗʰ June 2024 - Cyprus

This was a key event during the Materials Week 2024! Organized by the Horizon Europe projects NOVA, SUSAAN, STOP and RELIANCE, and mainly dedicated to the advancement of antimicrobial coating technologies presentations. This networking opportunity joined diverse scientific communities, from scientists to industry leaders, in our collective fight against the transmission of disease through surfaces.

  • Synergy Creation : Cultivating a collaborative ecosystem among projects, industries, and scientific bodies working on antimicrobial coatings.
  • Networking & Alignment : Strengthening connections and harmonize objectives within the antimicrobial coating community.
  • Knowledge Sharing : Sharing lessons learned, promoting smarter, more effective future endeavors while establishing a shared space for disseminating research, findings, and upcoming events.
  • Awareness & Dialogue : Enhancing mutual understanding and foster open discussions on community challenges.

SUSAAN participation

  • LUREDERRA, Coordination team presented the project progress.
  • Next generation antimicrobial nanomaterials Moderated by Fotis Katsaros, Research Director at the National Center for Scientific Research “Demokritos.
  • Sustainability : Life Cycle Cost Assessment ARDITEC presented on this topic highlighting the relevance to perform this analysis at the early stage of the project for decision support.
  • Regulatory Pathways : Intertek shared how challenging can be to face regulatory needs and follow regulatory pathways when such novel technologies are involved.

3ʳᵈ Workshop took part in the Nanoinnovation Conference 2024

13ᵗʰ September 2024 - Sapienza University of Rome, Italy

This recent workshop dedicated to Advanced Nanocoatings, organized by the Miria Project provided a valuable platform for researchers, industry experts, and innovators to come together and explore the latest advancements in sustaibale antimicrobial coatings, SUSAAN , RELIANCE , MIRIA, and PROPLANET presented the overview and progress on each project. The workshop featured insightful presentations and discussions focusing on the critical role of nanocoatings in various sectors, particularly in healthcare and high touch surfaces. As the demand for effective, sustainable solutions continues to grow, these coatings offer immense potential to enhance surface hygiene and prevent the spread of infections.

4ᵗʰ Workshop took part in the Nanoinnovation Conference 2024

13ᵗʰ September 2024 - Sapienza University of Rome, Italy

As a result of the interest shown in antimicrobial coatings at the recent ‘Materials Week 2024’ conference, the STOP project is organising a two-day scientific/technical conference on Antimicrobial Coatings, to be held at the Van der Valk Hotel Mons Congres (Mons, Belgium) on 5th and 6th December 2024. STOP – Surface Transfer of Pathogens research project and the European Ceramic Society are organising the Antimicrobial Coatings Conference.

The conference follows a meeting of the EU Innovative Training Network (ITN) Antimicrobial Integrated Methodologies: AIMed.

SUSAAN project will be showcasing our latest advancements in bio-based nanocoatings developed by Celabor, alongside groundbreaking antiviral tests conducted by Virhealth.
